Lots of Mangetout

MangetoutHooray!  Our mangetout plants are now producing so much that even our 4 kids can’t eat them all.  This means we are actually going to have some for dinner tonight.  They are absolutely delicious eaten raw, and whenever any of us is in the garden, we invariably nibble two or three.  As we’ve got so many, and lots more on the way, we shall be cooking them.  We give them about 2 or 3 minutes in boiling water, as we like them when they are still bright green with a bit of crunch.  There’s nothing quite like a big pile of veg on your plate.  You know you can eat as much as you like and it will only do you good!

Whose stealing our Mangetout?

Houston…we have a problem!  Something is stealing our mangetout.  The only pods on the plants are the tiny ones which are too small to munch.  We’re not getting a look in.  And this is why…

Mangetout Harvest

There are another 3 pairs of hands like these, all pinching our mangetout.  The other morning, at 6.15am, we heard our 5 year old open the backdoor and stomp across the decking in his wellies.  I was curious to know what was going on, so I leapt out of bed (well, not leapt exactly!) and looked out of the window.  What did I see?  I saw our lovely little boy standing in the veg patch munching away on the mangetout.  There really is no hope for us!
